Many may like the book and the movie. I personally did not like the book because it did not shine lights on how the fraud worked and how to prevent such scams in the future. The book repeats the same message over and over again — the fundamental technology does not work, while the founder and CEO uses her personal charm and whim to spin all the investors and collaborators around. For those who know there’s something fishy going on, they chose not to reveal it due to personal interests — “it’s okay to commit a little evil if I have much to gain from it”. 

 

But is this just the sad truth about how the world works? How can we tell a legitimate “bet” from a scam? I talked to friends about it and it seems so far that the answer is “there is no way”.
