I bought this book because it is the origin of one of the “events” from the game Stellaris. A 30km long cylinder pays a close visit to your solar system. You only have a 30-day-window to do any in-person investigation of this foreign object. What do you do?
Some parts that I liked about this book: its wild imaginations, its accurate physics depiction, and its details about an imaginary human society. It’s also quite funny at times. But I did feel that the book was a bit slow for my taste. I also bought the second book, but didn’t manage to finish it yet. There’s also a third book, because everything Raman comes in thirds.
